Finding the exact words to describe Laura and Wes‘ wedding was a challenge because they had such an eclectic mix of so many fantastic elements that cannot be summed up in one simple phrase. It is just so fitting that their wedding was as unique and dynamic and they are. The best way that I came up with to describe their day is this: Colorful Rustic Medieval Hippie Boulder-Mountain Wedding AWESOMENESS. Yeah?! And that’s still leaving out plenty of descriptive words that will only be best understood by seeing the photos yourself. I mean, guys, they had leather bow-ties, feather accessories, hatchets, intricately embroidered pashminas, live music, dogs, horses, fire-pits, lace-up boots, and Grateful Dead Bears…I think I’ve accurately described this day!
Really though, Ryan their photographer, tells their story best:
“Laura started out her wedding day at 9am, quietly on a stroll through the aspen grove of Snow Mountain Ranch with her bridesmaids. She wore a dress that she owned since high school when she declared, “I will wear this dress on my wedding day.” She picked out saplings for centerpieces at the reception in that dress. Her background is in botany and I was fascinated by how much she knew about all the grasses and plants that we walked through.
Wes started out his day wandering the woods while riding a horse. Yes, that’s right! He grew up riding horses and could think of no better thing to do than to go on an adventure through the woods to start his wedding day. I knew after these first moments of the day that the rest of the day was going to be an adventure.
The moment when Wes saw Laura for the first time during their first look is engraved in my heart. I even have one of the photos from that moment as my desktop wallpaper as I write this. As wedding photographers, we find ourselves repeating words of how we seek to capture emotion. Not only do I feel like I captured the many emotions seen throughout their day but I was forever affected by them with their friends and their purely sweet nature.
I loved that they made their wedding day their own. Truly. Take a look for yourself. Their suits and dresses, hatchet groomsmen favors, aspen grove ceremony and fire dancer reception performance all made for an adventure that I had the honor to be a part of. To put it simply, I want to be like Laura and Wes when I grow up.”
