I often get asked what my favorite venue to shoot at is and I don’t have an answer for that. To be honest, there is so much that goes into a wedding it is hard for me to pick a venue. It is really about the story. All the things that go into a relationship are the things that I love. So when I meet a couple that has a rich story and picked a venue that feels so uniquely them, I get really excited.
That is Andrea and Frank. I immediately thought they were way to cool to want to hire me. They are laid back, stylish and super sweet. They have a romance that is both logical and whimsical. And it works oh so well. When they told me they were having their reception at the Mercury Cafe that was a total bonus. This is a Denver icon! It is so important to the local culture and music scene. Plus, let’s be honest, it is unique and super interesting to photograph. I was so excited.
Everything about their wedding came together so well. It was small and intimate and screamed them. Their ceremony was at Cheeseman Park Pavilion. It was perfectly elegant and classic while having that outdoor Colorado vibe that they love. A good friend performed the ceremony and really captured who they were as people. The vows were sweet and refreshing. Frank, who claims that he is not the writer of the relationship, took the sweetest approach of reciting and explaining a Shakespeare poem. Andrea was floored and she presented her vows and started by saying “And I am supposed to be the writer between the two of us”. Frank’s vows spoke of a love that was real, substantial, logical and worldly. They perfectly complimented each other’s vows. This, to me, really shows how rich and well rounded their marriage is going to be.
In between getting ready and the ceremony, and the ceremony and reception. We got to spend time with all their favorite people. Everyone kept commenting on how Andrea looked like a greek goddess. She has such a classic and yet unique beauty. Really, she has it all. I loved her flower crown and vintage dress. Her style very easily went from the elegant architecture of the park to the quirky urban space of the reception. Her girls were all perfectly coiffed too. Each picked out their own style purple dress and wore them like they knew what they were doing. The boy’s didn’t look 1/2 bad themselves. Very dapper in their gray suits. I loved that Frank was the only one with a jacket to make him really stand out.
They finished off the party at the iconic and eclectic Mercury Cafe. The low strung lights and family style tables really gave an intimacy to the space. It was perfect for the musician in Frank. He even prepared a song for Andrea and her dad to dance too. Everyone was awed as he played for them on stage. As if it couldn’t get sweeter, he did his dance with his daughter. This is a couple who really celebrated their family. Andrea and Isabella were so sweet together. You can tell they have just as much fun when Frank isn’t there as when he is.
All in all, this is what is my favorite venue. One that is filled with the people that you love, celebrating a rich story and helping to write the new chapters that is going to make it even better. Congratulations to Andrea and Frank. It was so amazing to be a part of your wedding day!
